Practice 3 for the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach just finished, and qualifying starts in just over an hour. Here are three things to know:
Alexander Rossi for the repeat? This race has seen six different winners over the last six years, but Rossi has been strong this weekend. He was fastest in Practice 3 and says he “really wants a trophy” after not getting one through three races. Things haven’t fallen his way on race day yet this season, but as good as he’s been it will soon.
Will Power: The struggle is real. Power, who has won here twice and was second to Rossi a year ago, went P10 in today’s session after going P15 and P11 Friday. He had tire issues Friday, then scraped the wall in P3, with the team also changing springs and air pressures, to no avail. While he will more than likely get off of his schneid next month at the Indy GP, where he won three of the last four years, he probably doesn’t want to wait until then.
A rookie will make the Fast 6. It’s a good bet as Colton Herta, Felix Rosenqvist and Pato O’Ward were seventh through ninth, respectively, in Practice 3. Rosenqvist (3rd) and O’Ward (5th) were strong Friday afternoon as well. A rookie has appeared in the Fast 6 in two of the first three races, and one should make it through to the final round today.
Fast 6 predictions
Rossi, Hunter-Reay, Dixon, Rosenqvist, Herta and Josef Newgarden.
Pit Lane Parley
Speaking of predictions, Host Mike, Jess and Matt have their own in this week’s episode, as well as a Barber wrap-up.
And don’t forget about the Pit Lane Parley Experience with Harding Steinbrenner Racing as well.
